Dazhubao and Dafengding


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in the transitional area between the Sichuan Basin and the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, with the highest point Dafengding at 4,042 m. The vegetation shows prominent vertical zonation, with broadleaf evergreen forest from 800-1,800 m, broadleaf evergreen and deciduous mixed forest from 1,800-2,200 m, coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest from 2,200-2,500 m, coniferous forest from 2,500 m and 3,500 m, and alpine scrub and grassland above 3,500 m.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Ailurpoda melanolenca, Pygathrix roxellanae, Budorcas taxicolor, Moschus berezovskii, Ailurus fulgens, Felis temmincki, Neofelis nebulosa, Macaca mulatta, Macaca thibetana, Panthera pardus, Moschus sifanicus and Pseudois nayaur.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
The IBA includes Mabian Dafengding National Nature Reserve (34,500 ha) and Meigu Dafengding National Nature Reserve (16,000 ha), which were established in 1978.
