Dawangling Nature Reserve

Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Dawangling is located in the south-western part of Baise City, at the southern edge of the mountain ranges in Guangxi. The IBA includes 64 peaks above 1,000 m, and overall has a low to intermediate altitude mountain landscape.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Manglietia aromatica and Alsophila spinulosa. Animals include Andrias davidianus, Macaca mulatta, Manis pentadactyla, Prionodon pardicolor, Viverra zibetha, Felis temmincki, Moschus berezovskii and Muntiacus muntjac.

Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a county-level nature reserve in 1982. The vegetation in the area has been seriously damaged, with much broadleaf evergreen forest being converted into secondary woodland or scrub, and this destruction is still going on. The construction of a dam for a hydro-electric plant will flood many areas and have an impact on the birds.
