Located on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, near the Sichuan-Guizhou border.

Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity

Established as a provincial-level nature reserve (19,200 ha) in 1990, and subsequently upgraded to a national nature reserve. Dashanbao was designated in 2004 as a ‘Wetland of International Importance’ (or Ramsar site) under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
