Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
The site covers a reach of the River Danube between Szob and Budapest, and includes Szentendre island and adjacent flood-plains. The area is densely populated and one of the most popular areas for recreation in Hungary.



Key biodiversity
The site is especially important for wintering diving ducks and geese (Anatidae). A total of 210 bird species have been recorded in the area, with the majority occurring on passage.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The site is threatened by the construction of the Nagymaros Dam following a decision by the Hague Court. Recreational activities destroy riverbank habitats, and are an important threat. A management plan exists for the area.

National Partial International NoneThe IBA overlaps with Duna-Ipoly National Park.
