Site location and context
Topography around Danau Rana (Rana Lake) is flat and hilly. Local people work on dry land cultivation and collect fruits, sago, wood resin, medicinal plant and hunting deer, wild boar, bird, insect (larvae) and honey, also fishing from lake for their own consumption. The people who live around Rana Lake is Rana ethnic who lives traditionally and follow strict traditional law (adat). Some group of this community was moved out to coastal area and develop new villages and live as coastal people, but they still keep their relationship with their family around the lake.
Blue-fronted Lorikeet
Charmosyna toxopei collected by Toxopeus from west side of Danau Rana in 1921. An expedition in 1989 to this area has not found Blue-fronted Lorikeet (Jepson 1993). The last record of Rufous-throated Darkeye
Madanga ruficolis was in Wa Fehat near Danau Rana in 1922 (BirdLife International 2001).
Non-bird biodiversity: The important fauna is Cervus timorensis moluccensis (Hitipeuw & Tumuhury 1999)
Evergreen rainforest in northern and semi-evergreen rainforest in southern (Monk
et.al.1997).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Natural habitat alteration for agriculture, logging and animal catching for pets or consumtion.
