Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A complex of brackish wetlands on the south-east Sardinian coast, close to the village of Muravera. There are sand-dunes and beaches.
The site is important for breeding
Larus audouinii. Breeding species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Falco naumanni (min. 2 pairs).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are wetland drainage, water pollution by untreated domestic sewage, and the building of new infrastructure (new roads to tourist resorts). The area has been proposed as a Regional Nature Reserve (Stagno di Colostrai).
