Coast between Bosa and Alghero


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A rocky, coastal area of western Sardinia, between the towns of Alghero and Bosa. The main land-uses are stock-rearing, forestry and hunting.



Key biodiversity
The site is important for breeding raptors, especially for the largest Italian colony of Gyps fulvus. Breeding species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Larus audouinii (frequent).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are a new power line which is planned in front of the Gyps fulvus colony, touristic development projects along the coast, and fires. LIPU runs a project to conserve and restock the population of Gyps fulvus. The area is a proposed Regional Nature Reserve.
