Site description (1999 baseline):
Site location and context
Located on the south coast of Java around 17 km west of Jampang Kulon.
Non-bird biodiversity: Bos javanicus, Panthera pardus, Sus verrucosus, Hylobates moloch, Presbytis comata, Trachypithecus auratus (Silvius et.al.1996, Nijman 1997). Chelonia mydas, Dermochelys coriacea and Eretmochelys imbricata (Silvius et.al.1996)
Most of the area is secondary lowland rainforest and some patches primary forest (MacKinnon
et.al. 1982), the rest of the area is mangrove forest and swamp.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Animal hunting, forest clearence for agriculture, forest cutting, overfishing, turtle egg collection (MacKinnon
et.al. 1982)
8127.5 ha of this area is declared as Wildlife Sanctuary based on SK Menteri Pertanian No.523/Kpts/Um/10/1973 on 20 October 1973 (Anon 1997, Anon 1998).
