Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A reservoir on the River Guadiana surrounded by areas of sclerophyllous scrub, Quercus woodland, Pinus plantations, dehesas, pasture and non-irrigated arable cultivation.



Key biodiversity
This is an important site for breeding raptors and Ciconia nigra.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is from disturbance by hunters, particularly to breeding Aegypius monachus.



Protected areas
National Partial International None24,999 ha of IBA covered by National Game Reserve (Cijara, 24,999 ha).
