Site summary
Chočské vrchy is a mountainous landscape of limestone rock walls and various karst formations. Spruce, fir-beech forests, and temporary forest habitats are dominant Deforested borders consist of sub-mountain meadows, pastures, and fields. The area is used mainly for forestry, tourism, recreation (including hunting). Pasture and haymaking is less common. Various scales of habitats, inaccessibility and well-preserved ecosystems provide suitable conditions for many bird species of rocky and forest habitats. Typical are birds of prey, owls and forest birds. Intensive forestry and deforestation are the most serious threats to birds. The site is not proposed as an SPA.
