Cheremshanski Bay of Kuybyshev Reservoir


Site description (2001 baseline):

Site location and context
The area is a shallow water bay in the Ul'yanovsk part of Kuybyshev reservoir, located to the south-east of Ul'yanovsk, in a highly developed part of region.

Key biodiversity
A total of more then 20,000 waterfowls and gulls, and up to 10,000 waders (Calidris sp, Tringa sp.) stop over during migration.

Habitat and land use
As well as the Cheremshansky bay area of the reservoir, the IBA includes fish ponds which attract eagles and other birds.

Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Work dealing with specific management of sites where eagles breed is being carried out.
