Chagan Hu Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located 30 km south of Da’an City and 5 km west of Changshan Town. Chagan Hu is the tenth largest freshwater lake in China, and is the most important fishery and reed-production area in Jilin Province. During the migration seasons more than 50,000 individual birds are estimated to occur in the IBA.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: The area lies within the historical ranges of Procapra gutturosa, Canis lupus, Vulpes vulpes and Mustela sibirica, but their numbers have declined.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 1986.
