Site location and context
A low mountain located in Macva at the edge of the Pannonian lowlands, between the towns of Loznica and Sabac. Almost completely covered by forest of oak
Quercus and beech
Fagus, with pasture and mown meadows. Numerous conifers have been planted in previously bare areas. Human activities include cattle-rearing.
This is an important site for breeding species of forest and forest-edge habitats. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Aquila heliaca (breeding).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is uncontrolled felling of old growth forest and subsequent replacement with younger plantations, as well as afforestation of the remaining bare terrain. Intensive ornithological research was undertaken between 1995 and 1997.
