Site description (2000 baseline)
Two pools to the west of the village of Porto Torres, at the north-western corner of Sardinia. Pilo pool is separated from the sea by sand-dunes and is fringed by a belt of reeds Phragmites. Casaraccio pool is the remnant of a large wetland. The site also includes a small salina (Saline di Stintino). The main activity is fishing.
Key biodiversity
A wintering site for waterbirds (including Phoenicopterus ruber). Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aythya nyroca (max. 8, winter).
