Site location and context
Stari Begej River and Carska bara represents authentic splice of water and terrestrial habitats of Pannonian plane. Entire area of Carska bara admistratively belongs to the Zrenjanin municipality (west central part of Banat district)situated near the mouth of the Begej river into the Tisa river. Habitat includes pools, fish-ponds, reedbeds, alkaline meadows and softwood forests. Ecka fishpond represents largest inland fishpond in Europe.
