Site location and context
The site is located on the Northern Mauritanian shelf-break (50 m-1000 m deep) of the highly productive waters of the Canary current.
The site is known to be intensively used for foraging by several species, including local breeders (e.g. Cory’s shearwaters from Canaries during the breeding period and from Selvagens during post-breeding period) and several migrants from north and south hemisphere (e.g. Northern Gannets, Pomarine Jaegers, European Storm-petrels, Terns and Red Phalaropes).
The site is adjacent to the Banc d'Arguin National Park, World Heritage site and Ramsar site.
