Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
Formerly a fjord but now largely agricultural with the exception of a small lake surrounded by reedbeds (less than 5% of the total area) and meadows. Small plantations, mostly coniferous, are also present.
This is an important staging area for
Anser anser and
Branta leucopsis. Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed at the site, including
Circus aeruginosus,
Porzana porzana and
Lanius collurio.
National Low
International High1,710 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Waters between Lolland and Falster including Rødsand, 36,800 ha). 1,710 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Bøtø Nor, 1,730 ha).
