Site description (2000 baseline)
A 45-km reach of the River Danube between Dunaszekcsõ and the Serbian border, including Béda-Karapancsa and Riha lake. Both permanently flooded and well-drained flood-plains support ancient forests, plantations, backwaters and reedbeds (Phragmites). Human activities include fishing, angling, navigation and hunting.

Key biodiversity
An important area for wintering geese and diving ducks (Anatidae). Breeding species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (2-4 pairs).
