Bzenecka Doubrava-Straznicke Pomoravi

Site description (2002 baseline):

Site location and context
This IBA consists of two strikingly different types of habitats - dry pine forests and the floodplain of the Morava river. The pine forests were planted in the middle of the 19th century replacing original oakwoods that had been destroyed by grazing and logging in the 14-16th centuries. There are some small parts of the original oak forests scattered through the pine monoculture, often in the form of old and dying solitary trees. The surroundings of the Morava river form many permanently flooded meadows encircled by small stands of willows, alders and birches.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
This IBA is threatened by the planned construction of the highway R55 through the central part of the area. This would certainly have a significant impact on the Nightjar population.

Protected areas
There are six small-scale protected areas within this IBA. All IBA is coverd by SPA.
