Site description (2009 baseline)
Located at the western tip of Xinjiang, adjacent to Tadzhikistan, Kirghizstan and Afghanistan, 120 km south-west of Kashi (Kaxgar) City. Taxkorgan Alpine Animal Nature Reserve lies to the south. The IBA is on the upper Gez River, and is a breeding, summering and staging site for birds.
Key biodiversity
Non-bird biodiversity: Animals include Ursus arctos, Panthra uncia, Canis lupus, Vulpes vulpes, Ovis ammon and Capra ibex.
