Booby Island

Site location and context
Booby Island is a long narrow rocky uninhabited area located northeast of Rose Island, in the New Providence vicinity. This island is almost completed

Key biodiversity
Brown Boobies is reported to nest at this site. During early September 2007 members of the Ornithology Group took a boat trip to Booby Island, we saw five juvenile Brown Boobies, American Oystercatchers, Ruddy Turnstones, Spotted Sandpipers,Laughing Gulls, Ospreys, Brown Noddies, Roseate, Sooty and Least Terns. There were also Yellow-crowned Night Herons and Green Herons.

Habitat and land use
Uninhabited and not utilized, rocky coastline with minimal vegetation such as sea purslane, bay cedar and other salt resistant plants. Points of access to the island is very limited.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Introduction of predators(rats)and egging are potential threats.
