Bolluk Lake

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2004 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Ruddy Shelduck Tadorna ferruginea LC non-breeding (-) 310–450 birds A4i, B1i
Eurasian Spoonbill Platalea leucorodia LC non-breeding (1994) 400 birds A4i, B1i
Eurasian Spoonbill Platalea leucorodia LC breeding (1989–1998) 30–45 pairs B1i, B2
Greater Sandplover Charadrius leschenaultii LC breeding (-) 12 pairs B2
Slender-billed Gull Larus genei LC breeding (-) 840–1,250 pairs A4i, B1i
Mediterranean Gull Larus melanocephalus LC breeding (-) 1,905–2,250 pairs B3
Common Gull-billed Tern Gelochelidon nilotica LC breeding (-) 317–400 pairs A4i, B1i

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2004. The most recent assessment (2016) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2016 very poor high low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes habitat medium

State (condition of the trigger species' habitats)
Habitat Quantity (% remaining) Quality (% carrying capacity) Result
Wetlands (inland) moderate (70–90%) poor (40–69%) very poor

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Natural system modifications happening now most of population/area (50–90%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) high

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Whole area (>90%) covered by appropriate conservation designation No management planning has taken place Very little or no conservation action taking place low
