Site description (2000 baseline)
A permanently flooded area of flood-plain, c.30 km long and c.2-3 km wide, adjacent to the Bodrog and Tisza rivers. The high groundwater level results from the effects of the dam at Tiszalök. The area includes natural and artificial oxbow lakes, marshes, wet grasslands, flood-plain forests and several non-native poplar Populus plantations. Human activities include grazing, mowing, arable farming, angling and hunting.
Key biodiversity
An important site for wetland birds and raptors.
