Site location and context
Area located on the north-western shore of the southern island of Novaya Zemlya archipelago.

Habitat and land use
'Other' threat = radioactive contamination.

Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
The process of establishment Strict Nature Reserve (Zapovednik) called Novozemelskiy has been ongoing during last years in the frame of international projects. This IBA alredy had a status of Zapovednik before the mid 1950s, when a lot of Zapovedniks lost their official status. Current data for the site are incomplete, and further research is required. There are bird data from 1940s which are available for monitoring.
