Site description (2009 baseline)
Located 20 km south-west of Qinhuangdao, on the coast of north-west Bohai Bay. The wetlands in the IBA are a mosaic of small inter-tidal mudflats, sandy beaches and rocky shores. The habitat types include reedbeds, grassland, agricultural land and plantations. Being a tourist spot, the prohibition of hunting has benefited wild birds. Beidaihe is a suitable place to study migratory birds. Every year large numbers of birds pass through the IBA on migration.
