Site location and context
Lake Be Malae and the associated beach, tropical dry forest and oxbow lake provide an interesting landscape for a wide range of wildlife. The lake is of high cultural importance and is the site of an annual traditional event.

Key biodiversity
Eleven restricted-range species have been recorded in this IBA (Trainor et al. 2004).

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The area is heavily grazed by cattle and horses, but is not otherwise heavily used by local communities.

Protected areas
This IBA has not previously been identified as a site of significant conservation value.
