Site location and context
A mountain range with ancient and managed forest, mountain lakes, alpine meadows, peatbogs, cliffs and ridges.



Key biodiversity
This is an important site for species associated with old forest.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
There is increasing development for tourism. A conservation project for Tetrao urogallus is in operation. The area is a candidate Special Area for Conservation.



Protected areas
National Partial International Partial13,100 ha of IBA covered by National Park (Bayerischer Wald, 13,100 ha). 13,100 ha of IBA overlaps with Special Protection Area. IBA overlaps with Biosphere Reserve.
