IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2006 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Himalayan Snowcock Tetraogallus himalayensis LC resident (2003) 5 adults A3
Cinereous Vulture Aegypius monachus NT resident (2006–2008) 6 adults A1
Saker Falcon Falco cherrug EN resident (2006) 1 adults A1
Sulphur-bellied Warbler Phylloscopus griseolus LC breeding (2006) present A3
Wallcreeper Tichodroma muraria LC breeding (2006) present A3
Altai Accentor Prunella himalayana LC resident (2004) present A3
Alpine Accentor Prunella collaris LC resident (2004) present A3
Water Pipit Anthus spinoletta LC breeding (2004–2008) 5–25 adults A3
White-winged Grosbeak Mycerobas carnipes LC resident (2004) present A3
Eurasian Crimson-winged Finch Rhodopechys sanguineus LC breeding (2004–2008) 1 birds A3
Red-fronted Serin Serinus pusillus LC resident (2006–2008) 1–9 birds A3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2006. The most recent assessment (2019) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2019 not assessed low high
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes unset medium

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Biological resource use likely in long term (>4 years) few individuals/small area (<10%) no or slight decline (<1% over 3 generations) low

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Whole area (>90%) covered by appropriate conservation designation A comprehensive and appropriate management plan exists that aims to maintain or improve the populations of qualifying bird species The conservation measures needed for the site are being comprehensively and effectively implemented high
