Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context

The Bänke is a mesotrophic tributary of the River Müggelspree and is gradually silting up. Reedbeds (Phragmites) are present.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity

Floating breeding platforms are provided for Chlidonias niger.

Protected areas

National High International High16 ha of IBA covered by Landscape Protected Area (Müggelspree, 126 ha). IBA overlaps with Special Protection Area.
