Site description (2009 baseline):
Site location and context
Located in the northern part of the Hengduan Shan mountains, within Nu Jiang region. The IBA has high mountains and deep valleys, with dry river valleys at 3,000-3,400 m, Picea likiangensis forest on shaded slopes at 3,400-4,300 m, Cypress spp. forest on sunny slopes at 3,400-4,300 m, and alpine scrub and grassland above 4,300 m.
Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Macaca mulatta, Selenarctos thibetanus and Cervus albirostris.
