Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A large semi-arid plain with eroded limestone plateaus. There are areas of non-irrigated cereal crops, low sclerophyllous scrub, and sheep-grazed pastures. Apiculture (`Other' land-use, below) is widely practised.
This is an important site for raptors and species characteristic of Mediterranean habitats, particularly
Merops apiaster.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is from agricultural intensification. There are conflicts between apiculture and
Merops apiaster.
