Site description (2009 baseline):

Located on the northern slope of the eastern section of Minjiang, at the eastern edge of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. The lowest point of the IBA is Wangjiaheba Goukou at 1,700 m and the highest point is at 4,453 m. The vegetation shows prominent vertical zonation, with broadleaf evergreen and deciduous mixed forest (1,700-1,900 m), coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest (1,900-2,400 m), coniferous forest (2,400-3,500 m), and alpine scrub and grassland (above 3,500 m)

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Euptelea pleiospermum and Kingdonia uniflora. Animals include Ailurpoda melanolenca, Pygathrix roxellanae, Felis temmincki, Ailurus fulgens, Panthera pardus, Felis lynx, Moschus berezovskii, Moschus sifanicus and Pseudois nayaur.

Established as a provincial-level nature reserve (16,200 ha) in 1963.
