Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A bay with mudflats, saltmarshes, wet meadows, aquatic vegetation, and peatbogs.
The site holds 20,000 or more waterbirds on passage and in winter, on a regular basis. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Aythya nyroca (wintering);
Crex crex (passage).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The high hunting pressure and the management of water-levels are not compatible with species and habitat conservation.
National Low
International High1,907 ha of IBA covered by Hunting Reserve (1,907 ha). 600 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Domaine de Beauguillot, 600 ha). 400 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Marais de la Sangsurière et de l'Adriennerie, 400 ha). 20,715 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Basses vallées du Cotentin et baie des Veys, 20,715 ha). 32,500 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin, Baie de Veys, 32,500 ha).
