Badagongshan Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Badagongshan Nature Reserve is located in Sangzhi County, which is near the border of Hunan and Hubei provinces. The northern part of the reserve is linked to the mountains of western Hubei, and the southern part of the reserve is linked to the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Cyclocarya paliurus, Davidia involucrate and Liriodendron chinense. Animals include Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa and Macaca mulatta.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a nature reserve in 1982, and upgraded to a national nature reserve (23,200 ha) in 1986.
