Site description (2001 baseline):
Site location and context
This IBA include an area of forest shown on recent forest cover maps in a range of hills in northern Sorsogon Province, close to the border with Albay. The hills only rise to just over 1,000 m, so the forest is mainly lowland, with limited areas of montane forest around the highest peaks. Most forest in this area is reported to have been logged over in the past. Bacon-Manito is currently the site of a NAPOCOR Geothermal Power Project.
There are only a few records of the threatened or restricted-range birds of the Luzon Endemic Bird Area in the general area around this poorly known site, but on the basis of the habitats present it could prove to support a similar avifauna to that of Mt Bulusan (PH035).

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The remaining forests in the Bacon-Manito area are accessible from several entry points, and under great pressure from on-going and increasing logging activities, encroachment for kaingin cultivation and the collection of forest products (including fuelwood and rattan). Hunting is also reported to be a problem.
Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Surveys are required in this IBA, to investigate both the extent and quality of the remaining habitats, and whether it supports important populations of threatened and restricted-range birds and other biodiversity.
Not officially protected.
