Site description (2004 baseline)
The site includes a massive section of Latvia's largest river Daugava in its last major stretch unaffected by hydroelectric power stations. A mosaic of extensive farmland mixed with forest on the terraces and slopes of the valley. There are several small sandy islands in the Daugava. New IBA listed for the first time under the IBA C criteria. Almost fully protected: there is a 99.5% overlap with Augsdaugava protected landscape area, a candidate SPA.
