Atsas-Agios Theodoros Area

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2012 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Black Francolin Francolinus francolinus LC breeding (2005–2011) < 50 breeding pairs B2
Masked Shrike Lanius nubicus LC breeding (2005–2011) 100–200 breeding pairs B2
Woodlark Lullula arborea LC breeding (2005–2011) 30–50 breeding pairs C6
Cyprus Warbler Curruca melanothorax LC breeding (2005–2011) 500–1,000 breeding pairs B3
Cyprus Wheatear Oenanthe cypriaca LC breeding (2005–2011) 50-249 breeding pairs B3
Cretzschmar's Bunting Emberiza caesia LC breeding (2005–2011) 50–100 breeding pairs B3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2012. The most recent assessment (2013) is shown below.

IBA conservation status
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2013 not assessed high not assessed
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes population poor

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Agricultural expansion and intensification happening now majority/most of area/population (50-90%) slow but significant deterioration high
Energy production and mining happening now some of area/population (10-49%) slow but significant deterioration medium
Natural system modifications happening now some of area/population (10-49%) no or imperceptible deterioration low

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Not assessed Not assessed Not assessed not assessed

IBA Protection

Year Protected Area Designation (management category) % coverage of IBA

Habitats

Habitat % of IBA Habitat detail
Forest 67 Native coniferous woodland
Artificial/Terrestrial 29 Other urban and industrial areas; Arable land; Perennial crops, orchards and groves
