Site location and context
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within High Seas International Waters and the Atlantic, Southeast FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 1544 km2 and is 1389 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 2434 to 3554 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 1.72 and 2.08 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.34 and 0.4 mg/m3.
1 species triggers IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 1000-1111 individuals of Sooty Albatross (EN) from Gough Island are present at the site during the Brood-guard (Dec-Jan) life-history stage.
