Site location and context
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within High Seas International Waters and the Atlantic, Northeast FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 3597 km2 and is 466 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 4475 to 5026 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 19.54 and 19.88 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.14 and 0.16 mg/m3.
1 species triggers IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 33-39 individuals of Zino's Petrel (EN) from Madeira are present at the site during the Incubation (May-Aug) life-history stage.
