Antikythira island and surrounding islets


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A small island, and its associated islets, between Kithira and Crete. Antikithira is covered mainly by low maquis and phrygana with a few arable areas and olive-groves. Prasouda is covered by low maquis and phrygana. Human activities include stock-raising, fishing, agriculture, and hunting.



Key biodiversity
This is an important area for breeding and passage raptors and seabirds.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The major threats are from uncontrolled grazing and illegal hunting. The area is used as a swordfish fishery. The area is a candidate SAC.
