Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A low mountain range to the north of Málaga. The IBA has been largely deforested, with some patches of
Quercus and
Pinus woodland. The slopes are heavily cultivated with perennial crops. Remaining areas are dominated by scrub.
This is an important area for cliff-nesting raptors.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from the high hunting pressure and the use of poison (`Other' threats, below), powerlines and tourism development.

International Low2,016 ha of IBA covered by Natural Landscape (Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, 2,016 ha). 1,171 ha of IBA covered by Natural Landscape (Torcal de Antequera, 1,171 ha). 1,710 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Torcal de Antequera, 1,710 ha).
