Angren Plateau This is an IBA in Danger!

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2006 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Himalayan Griffon Gyps himalayensis NT resident (2006) 49 adults A3
Cinereous Vulture Aegypius monachus NT resident (2006) 28 adults A1
Greater Spotted Eagle Clanga clanga VU passage (1998) 50–500 adults A1
Pallid Harrier Circus macrourus NT passage (1998) 100–1,000 adults A1
Lesser Kestrel Falco naumanni LC passage (1998) 500–3,000 adults A1, A4ii
Hume's Lark Calandrella acutirostris LC breeding (2006) 7 adults A3
Sulphur-bellied Warbler Phylloscopus griseolus LC breeding (2006) 6 adults A3
Himalayan Rubythroat Calliope pectoralis LC breeding (2006) 1 unknown A3
Alpine Accentor Prunella collaris LC breeding (2006) 1 adults A3
Brown Accentor Prunella fulvescens LC breeding (2006) 1 adults A3
White-winged Snowfinch Montifringilla nivalis LC breeding (2006) 21 adults A3
Red-fronted Serin Serinus pusillus LC breeding (2006) 2 adults A3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2006. The most recent assessment (2019) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2019 not assessed very high very low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes unset medium

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Agricultural expansion and intensification happening now whole of population/area (>90%) rapid decline (>30% over 3 generations) very high
Biological resource use happening now most of population/area (50–90%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) high

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Little/none of area covered (<10%) No management planning has taken place Very little or no conservation action taking place very low

Habitats

Habitat % of IBA Habitat detail
Grassland 90
Rocky areas (eg. inland cliffs, mountain peaks) 10

Land use

Land use % of IBA
agriculture 75
