Site description (2012 baseline):

Site location and context
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the French Guiana Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Atlantic, Western Central FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 851 km2 and is 22 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 9 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 26.8 and 27.7 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 4.01 and 9.39 mg/m3.

Key biodiversity
2 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Amana include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Least Tern (LC) 5000-9500 individuals and Sandwich Tern (LC) 6500-23750 individuals.
