Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
The site includes a coastal lagoon, a saltpan, saltmarshes and a marine zone. Human activities include salt production (`Other' land-use, below), agriculture, hunting and tourism.
This is an important site for passage and wintering waders. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Phalacrocorax pygmeus (up to 18 wintering individuals).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is from hunting. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
