Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A mountainous area with deep gullies and plains. The vegetation comprises small
Quercus woodlands in the highest zones; otherwise scrub and bare, stony ground. Some areas have been afforested with
Pinus plantations.
This is an important site for steppic birds, particularly
Bucanetes githagineus, and for resident raptors in the mountains. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Tetrax tetrax (breeding).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from agricultural intensification, illegal hunting and disturbance from military manoeuvres.

International Partial2,375 ha of IBA covered by Natural Landscape (Karst de Yesos de Sorbas, 2,375 ha). 8,500 ha of IBA covered by Natural Landscape (Sierra Alhamilla, 8,500 ha). 8,500 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Sierra Alhamilla, 8,500 ha).
