Aktepe Reservoir and Three Lakes

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2006 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Great Crested Grebe Podiceps cristatus LC winter (2003–2006) 20–357 adults A4i
Pygmy Cormorant Microcarbo pygmaeus LC winter (2003–2006) 167–751 adults A4i
Great Cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo LC winter (2003–2006) 444–2,687 adults A4i
European Roller Coracias garrulus LC breeding (2006) 30 adults A1
A4iii Species group - waterbirds n/a winter (2003–2004) 21,267–26,354 birds A4iii

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2006. The most recent assessment (2018) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2018 not assessed low low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes unset good

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Biological resource use happening now few individuals/small area (<10%) no or slight decline (<1% over 3 generations) low

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Whole area (>90%) covered by appropriate conservation designation No management planning has taken place Substantive conservation measures are being implemented, but these are not comprehensive and are limited by resources and capacity low
