Site description (2001 baseline)
A very interesting area located close to the regional centre of Volgograd. The area includes the northern part of Volga-Akhtuba watershed and crosses steppe and semi-desert zones (although not including such habitats) from Volgograd to the Volga delta and Caspian Sea in the south.Typical intrazonal landscape.

Key biodiversity
Many waders, geese, ducks, raptors, Tetrax tetrax and Otis tarda can also be seen here on migration, but specific counts are needed (in order to confirm criteria and thresholds). In total 82 species breed in the IBA, most of which are included in various Red data books.
