Akhmet-Skala ridge

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2008 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Corncrake Crex crex LC breeding (2003–2006) 10–30 pairs A1
Egyptian Vulture Neophron percnopterus EN breeding (2003–2006) 2–3 pairs A1
Griffon Vulture Gyps fulvus LC resident (1996–1998) 20–40 pairs B2

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2008. The most recent assessment (2006) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2006 moderate high very low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes population medium

State (condition of the trigger species' populations)
Species Actual vs Reference (units) % remaining Result
Bearded Vulture Gypaetus barbatus 1 / 1 (pairs) 100 good
Egyptian Vulture Neophron percnopterus 2 / 3 (pairs) 67 not assessed
Griffon Vulture Gyps fulvus 15 / 20 (pairs) 75 moderate
Falco peregrinus 1 / 1 (pairs) 100 good

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Human intrusions and disturbance happening now some of population/area (10–49%) rapid decline (>30% over 3 generations) high
Biological resource use happening now some of population/area (10–49%) no or slight decline (<1% over 3 generations) low

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Little/none of area covered (<10%) No management planning has taken place Very little or no conservation action taking place very low
