Akhmet-Skala ridge

IBA Justification

The site was identified as important in 2008 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List1 Season Year(s) Size IBA criteria
Corncrake Crex crex LC breeding 2003-2006 10-30 breeding pairs A1
Egyptian Vulture Neophron percnopterus EN breeding 2003-2006 2-3 breeding pairs A1
Griffon Vulture Gyps fulvus LC resident 1996-1998 20-40 breeding pairs B2

1. The current IUCN Red List category. The category at the time of the IBA criteria assessment (2008) may differ.

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2008. The most recent assessment (2006) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2006 near favourable high negligible
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes population medium

State (condition of the trigger species' populations)
Species Reference Actual Units % remaining Result
Bearded Vulture Gypaetus barbatus 1 1 breeding pairs 100 favourable
Egyptian Vulture Neophron percnopterus 3 2 breeding pairs 67 not assessed
Griffon Vulture Gyps fulvus 20 15 breeding pairs 75 near favourable
Falco peregrinus 1 1 breeding pairs 100 favourable

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Human intrusions and disturbance happening now some of area/population (10-49%) very rapid to severe deterioration high
Biological resource use happening now some of area/population (10-49%) no or imperceptible deterioration low

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Protected areas Management plan Other action Result
Little/none of site covered (<10%) No management planning has taken place Very little or no conservation action taking place negligible
