Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A large eutrophic lake surrounded by farmland, in the vicinity of Oulu lake. The shores are fringed by narrow belts of
Carex marsh, whilst the shallow waters support stands of
Equisetum,
Phragmites and
Scirpus. Floating vegetation is also abundant. On the shores are numerous settlements whose people fish and hunt on the lake.
An important breeding area for
Larus minutus.

International High414 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Ahmasjärvi).
