Site description (2017 baseline):

Site location and context
Extensive inter-tidal mudflats near Abu Dhabi city that has mangrove stands.

Key biodiversity
Important area for breeding and wintering Greater Flamingo and resident Western Reef Heron. A very important site for wintering waterbirds (notably Bar-tailed Godwit), Osprey and birds of prey like Marsh harrier.

Other biodiversity: Occasional Hawksbill turtle.


Habitat and land use
Inter-tidal mudflats with mangrove that is protected for nature conservation.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Illegal fishing and trespassing.

Bul Syayeef Marine Protected Area.
